It Was Amazing*

Dear Diary ( It's a joke),

I guess it's been a few months since I got back from Japan and let me tell you... it was amazing. I had some of the freshest sushi I've ever seen with real wasabi. Green tea, udon, ramen, omakase, yakiniku, hottubs, shrines, markets, nightclubs, record stores. All the Above. All in all it was a great trip filled with lots of laughter, good food, good friends and memorable experiences. But there's an asterisk.

There's an asterisk on most things I do these days. When people ask how Japan was I say it was great and that it was a different trip than I would have taken a few years ago. It was great and I rented a wheelchair for the first time (Shoutout to Vinny for pushing me through Tokyo Station, arguably the busiest metro in the world). We had a lot of fun and I was struggling to get food to my mouth. You get the idea

It's hard to think of something that ALS hasn't touched, and it becomes quite difficult to not insert the asterisk yourself. The weather is so nice (and I might take a nasty fall if I try and go outside to enjoy it). Whoever said ALS is a mental game (has someone said that?) wasn't kidding.

Physically things are changing quickly it feels like. It's becoming harder and harder to lift my arms up (shoutout left arm for being the stronger of the two). My leisures are becoming chores and my chores are becoming onerous. Fortunately, people have shown up for me in amazing ways and I feel super grateful for them.

On a positive note, my sister Summer and Company have secured a venue for House Music for ALS Vol.3 in Durham North Carolina at Atomic Clock Brewing, Sunday May 31st. Keep a lookout  for a flyer coming out presently.
